Chasing After Turtles

Chasing after turtles is one of the first songs I wrote when I was a young songwriter searching for lyrics.

I was working with a friend of mine who wore his hair like a Rastafarian.

But what he was, was a country boy from up around Huntsville Alabama.

I was teasing him when I asked him "Paul, have you ever eaten any turtles?"

He said "If you ever ate any turtles, you'd be chasing after them then.

Turtles have nine different kinds of meat."

And I said, "Paul, I'm going to write a song about that."

It took me a year to write the third verse.

I could pick out the chords from one of my favorite songs.

We recorded it twice.

The drummer put in his part after the song was recorded, which is unusual.

I think he did a good job.

I played the harmonicas and sang.

The harmonicas have collected years of dust.

*My favorite instrument now is a mandolin I found at a yard sale for 60 bucks and rebuilt.

God bless you

John

Here is one of my favorite Bible verses:

2 Timothy 1:7

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
